Significant Percentage of Americans Name Their Dishwasher As the Noisiest Thing In Their House
A recent poll reveals that 38 percent of Americans think their dishwasher is the loudest thing in their house, just below squalling children. Most dishwasher manufacturers claim their products are quiet, but that’s often a subjective description. The Bosch 88 Plus model, however, stands out with a mere 39 decibels: a virtually silent noise level.
Fleet Appliance Repair in Northport, NY, offer to install and service these quiet Bosch dishwashers. Its website, at http://www.appliancerepairnorthportnewyork.com/, also offers troubleshooting advice, maintenance tips, and contact information for reliable repair providers.

Look for Small but Important Differences in Cribs
At first glance it may appear infant cribs are a homogenous product, but look again. They may all be designed for the same task, but more differences than just the price tag are evident. Some cribs offer more bang for the buck. A comparison between the DaVinci and LA Baby brands is a good example. They’re both good quality cribs, but with slightly different features.
The DaVinci Kalani 4 in 1 Sleigh crib is priced at about $250 online. The DaVinci Kalani is certified by the Juvenile Product Manufacturers Association (JPMA) and comes with a toddler bed conversion rail. Made of pine wood, it has a mattress support that adjusts to four different levels. It can be converted to a full size bed later. The crib’s dimensions are 54.5 by 34.5 by 42 inches. But despite its size, there are no casters to easily roll or move it. It is popular with consumers who say they would recommend it to a friend, although some of the consumer complaints include some parts are unlabeled, making assembly a challenge, and a finish that scratches easily. However, we found a big drawback. In June 2010 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a recall on the DaVinci Sleigh model number 2991 for exposed hardware.
By comparison, the LA Baby Compact Folding Metal crib sells online for about $163, something families on a shoestring budget will appreciate. It may not look as glamorous as the more expensive models but it gets the job done. The LA Baby Compact has JPMA certification, and is also approved by the CPSC and the American Society for Testing and Materials. This no-frills crib model comes in basic institutional white, and has a scratch-resistant finish. There’s no need to fuss with directions on how to put it together, as it comes fully assembled and can be easily folded up and moved. Plus, it has caster wheels for easy maneuverability. It’s easily squeezed into small spaces – the dimensions are 39.25 by 24.25 by 37.5 inches. This is considered a commercial grade crib, and can be found in many hotels, motels and day care facilities.
The most important piece of information to look for is a recall history. Compared to the DaVinci crib, the LA Baby crib has no recall history listed with the CPSC. So whether you’re a business or a consumer, remember to look a little deeper than just the dollar figure when shopping for a crib.

What are the different types of protein?
Protein comes in many different names, blends, and types. How do you know which one is the right one for you?
Whey Protein
This is the most common protein. Whey is made from whole milk and is one of the most efficient well rounded proteins. It tastes good, blends well, contains quality ingredients, and it has many other benefits.
Whey is the standard build muscle go to protein if you want to keep it basic.
Whey Isolate
Whey Isolate is a kind of sub protein of Whey – except it’s mostly lactose free and fat free – for those trying to lose weight but get that protein. It is thinner then normal Whey and usually comes in a blend. Great for protein for losing weight.
Hydrolized Whey
This protein (also called Hydro) gets broken down and absorbed by the body much faster then normal whey. This makes it best used post-workout as you can get protein into your body and absorbed fast for your needy muscles.
Hydro whey is normally found as a blend in protein powders. Though you can get it on its own.
Micellar Casein
Also known as Casein – this is a slow digesting protein – which means it feeds your muscles over a period of time slowly. This is a great protein to take before bed so it can do it’s magic over night. Usually also found in protein blends.
Meal Replacements
These are exactly what it sounds like – a replacement for meals. High in carbs and other nutrients some proteins don’t have. For the hardcore.
Weight Gainer
Weight gainer powders are basically are a mix of a whole bunch of stuff – protein obviously – but also featuring a TON of calories for those who need a lot.

Can I build muscle with protein powder?
Are you serious about building muscle? Did you know using a simple supplement like protein powder could drastically improve your journey for bigger muscles? Well it can.
What is Whey Protein
Whey Protein is a special form of protein powder which is a by product from cheese. It gets separated from the cheese and goes through a purification/scientific process to make a dry powder form. It is a supremely good source of protein and called the “gold standard” of protein.
How does it help?
Mayo Clinic has said their is good evidence that whey protein increases muscle mass and strength. Since whey protein is a complete protein, it has all the amino acids needed for the protein to work 100%. Some of these amino acids help promote muscle growth on their own.
When coupled with a good workout program that utilizes weights – whey protein powder is a big aid in building bigger size faster.
How much do I take?
Protein on a normal diet should make up 10/35% of your normal diet. 45/56 grams of protein a day. When utilizing a heavy strength resistance type program – you would want even more, about 1.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight.
So yes, it can build muscle
Yes – protein powder can AID in building muscle by giving you the protein you need. BUT – this should never be your soul source of protein. You still need to eat a healthy diet of good lean meat, veggies, and such – get protein from other sources as well.
Do not rely on more then half of your protein from a powder. It will only do so much for you.
Talk with a doctor first
If you plan on supplementing with protein – talk with a doctor first to be sure you are healthy enough to do so.

Cleaning Your Icemaker
Properly cleaning and maintaining your ice maker will ensure a long life for the appliance. If you’re using the ice maker in your bar or in a professional establishment, then it’s especially important to keep the components in working order.
Stainless steel exterior
The stainless steel door is the part of the ice maker that will attract the most attention. Keeping it clean, gleaming, and fingerprint free will require some periodic care.
- Wash the surface with warm, soapy water mixed with an all-purpose cleaner or liquid detergent.
- Use a non-abrasive sponge and never rub against the grain.
- Rinse off the soap with clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth.
- Special stainless steel wipes will restore its shine.
- Finally, wipe it clean with a dry towel until it looks polished.
The water system
As the ice maker performs its freezing cycle, minerals from the water are released and over time form a scaly buildup in the water system. About every six months, or whenever you see buildup on the machine components, it’s necessary to clean off the mineral deposits using a specialized ice maker cleaner. Some models alert you when it’s time to clean the machine.
The condenser
When a condenser becomes dirty or clogged, it’s important to clean it so the air flow isn’t restricted. Otherwise, temperatures in the ice maker can become too high, reducing its ice production and damaging the internal components.
- Turn off or unplug the machine before you remove the lower access panel and the venting grille.
- Use a vacuum cleaner or a brush attachment to clear the condenser of dirt and lint.
- Replace the grille and the panel and turn the machine back on.
Several ice maker models require you to empty the ice bin before running the cleaning cycle. Always read the manufacturer’s manual for the proper cleaning steps for your machine.

Protecting Washing Machines in Transit: The New LITKIT
For decades past, transporting washing machines required a complicated process of securing the drums to prevent them from being damaged in delivery. Any time a washer is transported, whether by a service company or a moving company, it runs the risk of having the load destabilized or the seal torn. These companies had to keep in stock multiple bolt kits for each different washer model, each kit expensive and time-consuming to install.
Now Litco International, based in Vienna, Ohio, has released the LITKIT universal-fit washer kit, which fits and secures washer drums for every major manufacturer. Service companies can now use one kit to guarantee load stabilization and protect drums and seals from damage when moving the heavy machines. The LITKIT works for top load and front load washers. With this new kit saving moving professionals time and money in transporting washers, customers can expect better service and protection when it comes to their washing machine delivery.
Information about LITKIT’s distribution service is available at http://www.litco.com/litkit-distributors.htm.

Features That Make Vacuuming Easier and More Effective
Everyone wants clean, plush carpet and slick hardwood floors. However, vacuuming can be a cumbersome, time-consuming task when it involves tugging around a bulky vacuum, untangling the power cord, and switching outlets multiple times. Luckily, there are new vacuum cleaners that make the task less of a hassle and leave your floors extra clean with some effective and convenient features.
Long power cord
Depending on how large your rooms are, you’ll probably appreciate a long power cord that doesn’t force you to move constantly from outlet to outlet. Of course, you don’t want the cord to get in the way of the vacuum head; some models have a clip that keeps the cord out from underfoot. The Hoover UH70120 even features a foot pedal that automatically retracts the power cord, saving you the trouble of winding it up.
HEPA filter
Sealed HEPA filters in vacuum cleaners are especially beneficial if you or a family member suffer from allergies. The filter is capable of trapping the most common allergens, pollens, and dust mites. Everyone will breathe better without those allergens resting in carpets and furniture upholstery. Look for filters that you can wash off periodically instead of replacing it.
Accessories
Most vacuum cleaners come with an assortment of attachments that provide versatile cleaning functions.
- Extendable wands let you reach ceiling corners to suck up cobwebs and clean all the surfaces of your staircase.
- A power nozzle is most effective for cleaning pile carpets and rugs.
- Dust brushes are useful for cleaning up dust and hair from hard and soft surfaces.
- Crevice tools let you reach every small nook and cranny, such as between the sofa cushions, where you’ll typically find all sorts of food, dirt, and unidentifiable particles.
Adjustable height
When you can adjust the vacuum cleaner height for different types of carpet, it will be easier to push back and forth and you’ll get the most dirt up. A low setting is sufficient for low-pile carpet, while thicker, plusher carpet requires a high setting.
Accessible controls
You’ll find that it’s easier to turn the vacuum cleaner on and off or adjust the settings when the controls are located on the handle instead of at the base.
Edge cleaner
A vacuum head that has a wide opening can reach dirt right up against the wall and in tight corners.
Full-container indicator
A bagged vacuum cleaner should include a full-container indicator so you know when the bag needs to be replaced. You should change out the bag when it’s filled about three-quarters full to get the most thorough suction.
Self-propelled
Although this feature typically makes the vacuum cleaner bulkier and heavier to carry, it helps you push it back and forth with the transmission and drive system.

How to Wash Your Knives
After a lot of busy work in the kitchen, chopping up and cooking food, you just want to enjoy the fine meal you’ve prepared and get the kitchen cleaned as quickly as possible. It’s tempting to throw your nice knives in the dishwasher along with all the other cookware, but you should resist the urge to hasten the cleanup process.
While some nice knives claim to be dishwasher safe (and most don’t), it’s really not recommended for a number of reasons.
- Knives in the dishwasher can bang against other items, potentially chipping the knives, your glasses, or the dishwasher racks.
- Dishwashers can hasten the dulling process.
- Prolonged exposure to water can cause the blades to rust and stain. If the handles are wood, they can warp and crack.
- You can accidentally cut your hand as you unload the racks.
In general, it’s always best to clean and dry your nice knives by hand after each use. After paying a lot for fine-quality knives, you want to preserve them for as long as possible. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions to find out whether you need a specific cleanser. Some knives also need regular polishing to retain their luster.

Dryers Buying Guide
The Best Features Look for in an Electric Dryer
Shopping for a new electric dryer can be overwhelming because of the various cycle options and special features that different brands offer. The most important thing to bring to this process is knowing which features are going to be truly useful. It’s not helpful to pay extra for features you won’t use at all. Here’s a rundown of the best dryer features you should look for.
Moisture sensors
This feature is included in a lot of new dryers and it works exceptionally well for the most part. Dryers in the past have included this feature but most of the time clothes still came out damp. New models have fixed this problem with sensors in the drum that detect moisture levels in the clothes and adjust the temperature and time of the cycle accordingly. The dryer shuts off automatically when the clothes are dry, which means no energy is wasted and your clothes aren’t subjected to overheating, which damages fabric.
Interior light
A light inside the drum is so useful when you’re digging around for every last sock, so you’d be surprised that some models don’t include it.
Adjustable temperature
Different fabrics require different temperatures to dry properly without damage. High temperatures are fine for white, preshrunk items, but lower temperatures should be used for your delicate items and colorful garments.
Extended tumble
An extended tumble feature ensures that clothes come out of the dryer completely wrinkled if they have to sit for longer than they need to after the cycle is complete. An extended tumble feature periodically tosses the clothes around without heat just to keep them fresh and de-wrinkled.
Lint filter indicator
If you’re bad about remembering to clean the lint filter, an indicator is a handy feature that will remind you. A clogged filter greatly impedes the drying process and poses a fire risk.
Drying rack
A convenient accessory that you attach to the inside of the drum, a drying rack keeps clunky items like sneakers from tumbling around in the dryer.

Gas Dryer Buying Guide
The Best Features to Have in a Gas Dryer
If you are in the market for a new gas dryer, you’ve probably already realized the sheer amount of features and cycles the manufacturers pile up in each machine. The key to winning the battle is knowing which features are truly useful and aren’t. What’s the point in paying extra for features you won’t use. Here’s a rundown of the best gas dryer features you should look for.
Moisture sensors
This is a must-have feature if you want your dryer to work the most efficiently. Traditional gas dryers estimate the correct drying time based on the temperature of the air in the drum. Sometimes their estimates are a bit off, leaving clothes still damp or shrunk and sizzling.
Permanent press
A perma-press option gives your clothes a cool-down period at the end of a cycle. This feature is handy because it reduces wrinkles, which can mean less ironing time for you. It also protects your colorful clothes from fading.
Adjustable temperature
Different fabrics require different temperatures to dry properly without damage. High temperatures are fine for white, preshrunk items, but lower temperatures should be used for your delicate items and colorful garments.
Lint filter indicator
If you’re bad about remembering to clean the lint filter, an indicator is a handy feature that will remind you. A clogged filter greatly impedes the drying process and poses a fire risk.
Drying rack
A convenient accessory that you attach to the inside of the drum, a drying rack keeps clunky items like sneakers from tumbling around in the gas dryer.

Baby Cribs are Now Required to Meet Tougher Standards
The winds of change are sweeping over the crib industry.
Going forward, parents, caregivers, and businesses that make cribs available to the public are expected to abide by newer, more stringent federal standards regulating cribs. That means child care facilities, foster homes, retail outlets, churches, hospitals and the hotel/motel industry will need to follow the new rules.
By Dec. 28, 2012, public facilities will be required to use only compliant cribs meeting the newer safety standards.
Those five standards include strengthening the side slats, making stronger hardware, making the mattress supports more durable, halting the sale of traditional drop-side cribs and requiring more stringent testing of cribs.
The new rules went into effect in June 2011, so consumers still using older model or unsafe cribs will have time to bring themselves into compliance.
The standards apply to full size as well as smaller cribs. The new regulations are not just a ban on all drop side cribs. In the wake of so many crib recalls and crib-related injuries and deaths, they are a concerted effort by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to ensure cribs on the market are safe for children. Shoppers looking at cribs can ask the retail store or the manufacturer if the crib complies with 16 CFR 1219, which regulates full size cribs, or 16 CFR1220, which regulates smaller cribs.
Manufacturers are now required to test their cribs against the new standards and certify that they comply, and they must provide that certification to the retailer. Consumers shopping for a crib at the retail outlet can view the certificate of compliance accompanying the product, and make their decision accordingly.
Individual crib recalls are not linked to the passage of new governmental regulations, but are voluntary efforts by the manufacturers to cooperate with the CPSC and pull offending cribs off the market when they discover the product has a defect or a flaw. Recalls have been issued on drop side as well as fixed side cribs, but the older model drop side cribs do not meet the new standards.
A good practice is to check the CPSC website to see what cribs have been recalled. In
the past several years there have been many listed for various reasons. During 2011 alone there were recalls by eight major manufacturers for a variety of reasons. Those companies include Dutailier, Yu Wei, Shermag, Dream on Me, ducduc, Delta Enterprise, IKEA and The Land of Nod.
Consumers who still have a drop side crib that has not been recalled are urged to check the CPSC website for companies that have recalled their cribs and are providing immobilizers to secure the drops side. The immobilizers are approved by the CPSC, but the crib itself still will not meet federal standards. Consumers who have an older model fixed side crib are advised to check it frequently, to ensure the hardware is securely fastened and there are no loose, broken or missing parts.

How to get fit with a workout plan
So you want to get fit but don’t want to pay for a personal trainer? well luckily you can be your own personal trainer. Getting on a workout plan isn’t as hard and complicated as people make it look.
I want to get fit
Now you will need a good aid to help you – a plan to follow. This is where the aid of a workout plan book or DVD set comes into play. This is your ticket to getting fit. The benefits of following one of these workout plans opposed to just making one up can be huge. 99% of workout plans are tested guaranteed to work, with effort. (no slacking)
We put together a list of some of our favorite workout plans that will get you in great shape – you can check those out here.
Picking a plan
Picking the correct workout plan really depends on your goals. They’re numerous different plans that can use to achieve different goals. Losing fat, building muscle, toning muscle, increasing endurance, increasing strength, sports training, etc.
Most beginner type workout plans such as INSANITY or P99X (don’t confuse beginner with easy!) will help you lose fat, build muscle, gain strength, and much more. So be sure to chose a plan that will hit your goals. More focused on just gaining strength? Look for a plan that focuses on strength gain/lifting weights more. Want to just lose weight? Look for a program focusing on just that.
Following the plan
Just picking the workout plan isn’t the end of it. It takes hard work, consistency, and dedication to achieve your goals. Many people simply buy a workout plan, watch it twice, and workout twice – and expect results. You need to really commit to the plan and follow it 100%.
If it has you work out 4 times a week – workout 4 times a week. If it has you doing 50 jumping jacks, do 50 jumping jacks. If it requires you to eat 3000 calories a day, eat 3000 calories a day (in healthy food) – don’t cut corners!
Will it hit diets too?
Most workout plans will include a diet plan as getting in shape leans on your diet immensely. This is probably the most important factor of your plan. You need to follow the included nutrition plan like it’s your bible.
A good workout plan such as P90X or INSANITY includes a nutrition guide and calendar to help you schedule and track your meals.
How long is it?
That depends on the workout plan and your goals. Something like INSANITY or P90X is 90 days long (3 months) – which will seem like enough. But once you complete the program, don’t be scared to go through it again. And again, and again.
Or take what you learned, and apply it to your life and live healthier!
Don’t be scared or intimidated. You can achieve your goals and the body you want if you are 100% dedicated and focused! Good luck!

The Importance of Chefs Knives
When it comes to preparing food, the knife is of utmost importance. For the greatest control and versatility, a chefs knife cannot be topped. Featuring a blade between 8 and 10 inches long, it’s expensive and requires special care, but it will also last for many years.
No matter what you’re chopping, slicing, or mincing, a chefs knife will typically be the first tool you reach for. Its razor-sharp blade cuts through even thick foods like butter. Some blades are slightly rounded, which allows you to adopt a rocking motion and speed up the cutting process.
Cleaning and Maintenance
You may have heard that a sharp knife is a safe knife. While the sharp blade and tip of a chefs knife requires careful handling, it’s far safer than a dull knife, which is more difficult to maneuver and can slip and cut you. Depending on the quality of the steel, chefs knives usually stay sharp for long periods of time, but it’s best to keep a professional sharpener or steel on hand. Cheap sharpening tools can severely damage the blade, which you definitely don’t want because the knife is so expensive.
Some chefs knives claim to be safe to go in the dishwasher. Generally that’s not a good idea. If it’s an inexpensive knife, you may not care and might be able to get away with cleaning it in the dishwasher. But expensive, top-quality knives are always best washed by hand with a special cleanser. Other risks of washing chefs knives in the dishwasher include:
- A chipped blade from knocking against other dishes
- A cheap blade could rust or become discolored from the dishwasher detergent
- A wooden handle could warp and crack
- A cut hand from reaching into the dishwasher without noticing the knife

It should be easy to find one that works for you. You can get this Mr. Coffee machine for $54.95 to $59.99.

Hamilton Beach Single Serve Scoop |
8 ounce cup |
Hamilton Beach came up with a very neat idea for a one cup coffee maker. The first thing you will notice is the scoop for a filter. Very cool idea. Just scoop your coffee, put the scoop in the machine, then brew your coffee. The unit drips right into your travel cup or mug so you don’t have a carafe getting dirty. The cup size is a bit small, but it is ready in less than 2 minutes. Hamilton Beach also made sure the temperature of the finished product was right. Hot coffee is very important to many people and you know you are going to get that with this coffee maker. You can find the Single Serve Scoop for $59.00 to $69.99.

Black & Decker Brew ‘n Go |
Brews directly into included 15oz. travel mug |
Two good things immediately stand out when looking at this one cup coffee maker. You can get it very cheaply and it comes with its own travel mug. Many of us are constantly on the go, we like to have a hot drink while we commute, and we don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars a month on Starbucks. That’s where this little machine comes in handy. It’s not the flashiest or the best, but it will keep you happy in the morning. You can pick the Black & Decker Brew ‘n Go up for $19.99.
