Parents wanting a crib radically different from the traditional can consider the Dragon Fly Finial Round Crib. It’s something not normally seen in stores and retail outlets, so probably not a lot is known about it. Round cribs have no edges or corners to bump into, and marketers of the Dragon Fly Finial assert round cribs take up less space than rectangular ones. But because this type of nontraditional crib has no JMPA certification and the price tag is hefty, it came in last on our Top 10 Rating.

This is one of more than a dozen round cribs that can be ordered online. But prepare yourself for sticker shock – this crib sells online for between $835 and $2,025, plus a $75 surcharge. It takes a round mattress with a waterproof cover, which must be purchased separately. The price for the mattress runs anywhere from $161 to $296, plus a $45 surcharge. Unlike some imported cribs, this one is made in the USA. It meets U.S. safety standards, has a non-toxic finish and has four posts to accommodate a canopy. Colors come in white, natural and cherry. Panel designs include cherub, wreath, flower basket and dragonfly.
