2-Pack HD Screen Protectors for Apple iPad  7.5/10

Generic
Designed to be virtually invisible on the iPad screen, the amFilm Premium HD Clear screen protector will not distort the colors or clarity of the iPad display. Screen protectors are notoriously tricky to apply evenly and with no bubbles, but this pack comes with an extra screen just in case and directions that, if followed carefully, should ensure a perfect fit. The pack also includes a cleaning cloth and a squeeze card. We were impressed with the crystal clear clarity of the screen protector, and with the reasonable price of $8.95.

Strengths

No residue left when removed

Comes with a microfiber cleaning cloth and squeeze card

Designed to preserve colors and clarity of HD iPad screen

Easy to get rid of bubbles if screen is thoroughly cleaned beforehand

So clear, you don’t know it’s there

Weaknesses

Can be tricky to apply if you’re not used to applying screen protectors

Bamboo iPad Stand  8/10

Lipper International Bamboo iPad Stand
For a simple, elegant iPad stand, consider the Lipper International Bamboo Expandable and Adjustable iPad Stand. The stand conveniently expands lengthwise to fit the iPad in its horizontal and vertical positions. It also leaves a space at the bottom for the charging port, so you can charge the tablet while you use it. We were pleased with the four adjustable positions, which work great for watching videos or using Skype. If you’d like an iPad stand that has a unique look and would look classy on an office desk or in the kitchen, you won’t be disappointed with this stand, which is available at $22.28.

Strengths

Has 4 adjustable positions

Attractive, unique bamboo construction

Has a cut-out hole to let you charge iPad while it’s in the stand

Convenient for using iPad in an office or kitchen (following recipes)

Wireless Keyboard for Bluetooth Devices  8/10

Top foldable keyboard case
If you’re looking for a wireless Bluetooth keyboard to make typing with your tablet (or smartphone) easier, then the Foldable Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard Case is a valid choice at $19.99. The keyboard folds up in the middle and fits conveniently in the included pouch. The keyboard is full size and types pretty well, although we noticed the keys sometimes feel “sticky” and for some reason the Shift key is only on the right side. However, the keyboard is easy to set up and connect to your Bluetooth-enabled device. It comes in a variety of colors and has a satisfactory battery life.

Strengths

Offers standby and sleep modes to save battery life

Universal keyboard works with any Bluetooth-enabled device, including iPad and Android devices

Folds up conveniently and comes with a storage pouch

Wireless, full-size keyboard allows for greater typing comfort

Long battery life

Weaknesses

Keys stick sometimes

Shift key is oddly on the right side of keyboard

Poorly written directions

Stylus for iPad, Tablets, E-readers, and Smartphones  8.5/10

Cosmos Stylus
This stylus from amPen protects your iPad touchscreen from oily fingerprint smudges and improves sensitivity. The rubber tip is soft and ultra-sensitive, leaving no marks or scratches on the screen. Of course, a stiffer, narrower tip could improve accuracy when it comes to writing on the screen, but stiffer tips can also leave marks behind. This stylus, in stylish black, has a dongle for attaching it to your device via the earphone jack, so you’re less likely to misplace it. It’s lightweight and fairly durable if not handled roughly. We were pleased with the durability of the tip; compared to other styluses, it seems built to hold up with extended use. This functional stylus is available for $5.99.

Strengths

Clips let you attach styluses to a pocket, book, tablet case, diary, etc.

1-year replacement warranty

Soft stylus tip won’t scratch touchscreens

Dongle attaches stylus to earphone jack

Tip lasts longer than most styluses

Weaknesses

Stiffer tips could improve accuracy and make them more durable

Rounded tip can be difficult to use for precise work

Pack comes with only one stylus

3-Pack iPad Cleaning Pads  8.5/10

Targus CleanVu Cleaning Pads
Keeping fingerprint smudges and oily residue off your iPad or tablet can be a frustrating challenge, but with the Targus CleanVu cleaning pads, the task isn’t as hard. The pads are made of a soft suede-like material on the cleaning side, and a leather-like material with a finger strap on the opposite side. No sprays or liquid cleaners are required for cleaning your electronic devices. The suede side of the pad wipes away greasy fingerprints and other residue with just a few swipes. The pads come in a set of three, two black and one red. We liked that they were small enough to carry around easily with the tablet. The three-pack is available for $3.99.

Strengths

Convenient leather handle on the back to make wiping screen easier

Soft suede-like material gentle on touchscreens while cleaning them effectively

Requires no messy cleaning solutions

Can be stored inside the Targus Zierra Case/Stand (separate item)

Good value

Works on any touchscreen: smartphone, e-reader, etc.

Weaknesses

May be too wide for cleaning iPhone if it’s in a protective case

TabSuit 7” PU Leather Case for 7” Tablet Dragon Touch https://10rate.com/verteks-review/ https://10rate.com/verteks-review/#respond Sat, 07 Feb 2015 15:12:06 +0000 http://10rate.com/?page_id=3455
7-Inch Leather Folio Case  9/10

TabSuit Leather Case
This protective case and stand from TabSuit protects the 7-inch Tablet Dragon Touch tablet. The PU leather exterior feels durable and strong, while the interior is gentle on the tablet, protecting it from scratches. The case holds the tablet perfectly and closes securely with a magnetic flap. The cover folds back to create a convenient stand, making it easy to prop up the tablet to watch videos or read books for extended periods of time. We especially liked that none of the ports or buttons were obscured, almost making us forget that the tablet was wearing a case at all. Given its quality construction and functional yet attractive design, this TabSuit case is a true bargain at $8.99.

Strengths

Convenient stand for viewing videos

Magnetic flap makes it easy to close case securely

Durable, high-quality material

May fit some other 7 in. tablets

Protects tablet from bangs, dirt, and scratches

Weaknesses

Adds some bulk (but feels sturdy)

Does not include screen protector

Portable Fold-Up Stand for iPad, Samsung Galaxy Note Pro, Galaxy Tab, and Nexus 7  9/10

Arkon Travel iPad Stand
Anytime you want to view your iPad or tablet in an upright angle while keeping your hands free, this Arkon fold-up stand will do the trick. The stand folds up into a compact form, about the size of an eyeglasses case, making it extremely travel friendly. The next time you’re on a plane, try it out on the seat tray; its non-skid material on the base keeps it from sliding around on slick surfaces. The stand is cushioned where it touches the tablet. It holds a tablet securely whether or not the tablet has a case or skin. You can position the tablet vertically or horizontally; just be aware that the charging port will be hard to reach in portrait mode unless you flip the tablet upside down. The price of $9.99 is very reasonable for this reliable product.

Strengths

Folds up for convenient storage in a purse or bag

Provides a secure grip for tablets

Non-skid pads keep stand from sliding around

Fits tablets contained in a case

Great value

Weaknesses

Charger does not fit in tablet when it’s in the stand in portrait mode

Kid-Proof Case for New Kindle Fire HD Tablet  9/10

Kindle FreeTime KKFSWA2Y

The touchscreen on your smartphone or tablet lets you operate the gadget with ease, but it also picks up unattractive fingerprints and smudges that can be difficult to wipe off with a basic cloth. Microfiber cloths are designed to lift off these oily marks and leave the screen clear and polished. Many microfiber cloths clean touchscreens without requiring water or liquid cleaners. Always check the instructions for the best cleaning procedure.

The Toddy is one such microfiber cloth that works on all touchscreens and doesn’t require moistening sprays. Toddy cloths come in a variety of bright, colorful patterns. They’re two-sided; the textured side cleans the touchscreen, lifting off fingerprints and smudges, and the smooth, patterned side lets you buff and polish the screen afterward.

Microfiber cloths vary in price. If you’re trying to save money, see if your smartphone or tablet comes with a microfiber cloth, or use one that came with your eyeglasses or sunglasses.

Why do you need a stylus if your smartphone or tablet screen responds to your finger? Well, there are several benefits to using a stylus, the most notable one being that it cuts down on the fingerprint smudges. You’ll definitely appreciate making your high tech gadget look more attractive.

Other advantages:

  • A stylus lets you operate a touchscreen when you’re wearing gloves.
  • A stylus fits easily in a pocket or purse; some clip to books, tablet cases, or the device itself.
  • Users with long fingernails will be able to tap the screen with a stylus easier than with their fingers.
  • Touchscreens are especially sensitive and responsive to styluses.
A stylus also works on resistive screens like ATMs and credit card kiosks, meaning you don’t have to touch the germy screens with your hand.
  • Universal styluses work on any smartphone, tablet, e-reader, or tablet screen, making them all-purpose tools for your electronic gadgets.

Resistive and Capacitive Touchscreens: Understanding the Difference https://10rate.com/resistive-and-capacitive-touchscreens-understanding-the-difference/ https://10rate.com/resistive-and-capacitive-touchscreens-understanding-the-difference/#respond Tue, 20 Mar 2012 12:29:51 +0000 http://10rate.com/?page_id=3987 10 RateBy JB Burden

Most of our gadgets today feature touchscreens. We’ve long hand touchscreens on ATMs, supermarket check-out lines, and other public places. But you’ve probably noticed that the touchscreen on your smartphone or tablet works differently than the touchscreen at the bank drive-thru. Why is that?

The difference lies in the type of touchscreen, either resistive or capacitive.

  • Resistive touchscreens sense pressure, from a finger press or a stylus. The surface of the resistive touchscreen flexes under pressure, and the machine detects where the pressure is coming from—that is, which part of the screen you’re touching.
  • Capacitive touchscreens don’t rely on pressure, and for that reason they require just the lightest touch. Their electrodes respond to only certain objects, like fingertips. Because you don’t have to use great pressure on a capacitive screen, you can use light swipes and taps to operate the touchscreen.

Resistive touchscreens have the advantage of being slightly more accurate, and you can use objects besides just your finger to get them to work. Capacitive touchscreens require a specific kind of stylus to increase the sensitivity of the screen, and such a stylus can be more accurate than your finger.

The 7-inch tablet stand and carrying case from HDE and the Arkon portable fold-up tablet stand are two popular options for viewing the iPad or other tablet in an upright position. The HDE stand also functions as a protective carrying case and comes with a USB keyboard to make typing easier. The Arkon stand doesn’t include a keyboard, but it works with a variety of tablets whether they’re encased or not.

One advantage of the Arkon stand is that it quickly folds up into a compact form that fits in a bag, purse, or pocket. The non-slip base keeps the tablet from sliding on slick surfaces. If you already have a case or sleeve for your tablet, then the Arkon fold-up stand is a convenient addition—unless, of course, your case already folds into a stand. The Arkon stand costs $12.45.

The HDE case includes an extendable stand and USB keyboard, all for $11.40—making it a very valuable purchase if you don’t already own a case. The case fits tablets up to 8.75 x 5.5 x 0.75 inches. While the keyboard makes it much easier to work on the tablet, some users have complained that the keyboard was incompatible with their tablet, even with the adapter. It could be user error, or there could be a defect with their particular purchase.

To sum up: The HDE case gives you more for your dollar, but some people have found it difficult getting the keyboard to work. The Arkon stand is a simple but incredibly useful accessory to carry around with you, and it works whether or not your tablet has a case.

Styluses come in handy whether you’re using a tablet, smartphone, e-reader, or other device with a touchscreen. Some people even carry around their styluses to use on public ATMs or kiosks. A good stylus works on capacitive and resistive screens. Cosmos and Bluecell are two manufacturers that offer inexpensive styluses for smartphones and tablets in a variety of bright colors. These styluses are not the highest quality compared to more expensive stylus pens from Boxware, Griffin, and Pogo. However, they still serve their purpose well, are lightweight and colorful, and clip to a pocket or book.

Cosmos offers a three-piece set for $6.99; the included styluses are aqua, red, and black and include the Cosmos brand name. The colors are attractive and unisex, and the soft tips work on capacitive touchscreens without leaving marks. The only potential issue comes from the tips, which may tear over time. A torn or rough stylus tip could scratch or mark a touchscreen.

Bluecell offers four styluses for $5.99—a better value. There are two pink and two purple pens—the colors are cute but may not appeal to men. The stylus pens can help women with long fingernails tap their capacitive touchscreens with better accuracy.

Overall, these pen sets from Bluecell and Cosmos serve the same purpose. The Cosmos pens have a wider appeal for both men and women, but the the Bluecell styluses come at a better value. We wish both kinds included a headphone jack input that attaches the stylus to a tablet so it doesn’t get lost.
