Hotpoint’s electric dryer is definitely the budget model of the list. It is stripped down to the bare basics of drying. You only get 3 cycle and 3 temperature options. This isn’t bad if you don’t care for permanent press or towel cycles. It does has a sensor dry mode though. This is a great energy effiecient addition to recent dyers. The lint filter is located at the front of the drum so it is easy to access and clean with every use. This is the dryer for those who just want dry clothes, nothing else. You can find it for $369.00.

Strengths

A highly efficient and quality dryer, the LG DLE1001W has a tremendous 7.3 cubic foot capacity, large enough to hold comforters. Its sensors detect the moisture levels in your clothes and adjusts the drying time accordingly—no more pulling out damp, smelly clothes at the end of the cycle. We were impressed with the variety of cycle selections and other options, although it did make for some slightly complicated controls. However, we were happy with how quickly and efficiently the LG DLE1001W completes cycles and leaves clothes smelling fresh and dry. For only $584.99, it’s a terrific bargain.

An affordable, no-frills electric dryer from GE, the GE GTDP200EFWS has a durable build and parts that are prepared to handle even tough laundry needs. Its 6.8 cubic foot capacity is large enough to handle big loads, such as comforters. The auto-dry feature sets the best drying time based on the moisture levels in the drum, thereby cutting down on energy costs. We were happy that the lint filter, while on the small side, slides out of the front, cutting down on the mess to clean up. We were also happy with the short drying times, guaranteeing that clothes came out dry and fresh in an optimal amount of time. The GE GTDP200EFWS is available for $549.

This is a step up from the 6 cubif foot Hotpoint model on the list. For a little bit of extra cash you get a nice selection of extra features in addition to the bigger drum capacity. This model has an Auto Dry feature that monitors the air temperature inside the drum and sets the dry time accordingly. The drum is made out of painted steel so you know it is going to be durable. It is going to be a pretty quiet dryer too. You can pick up this electric dryer from Hotpoint for $429.00.

Strengths

The Optimumdry cycle gets clothes dry with no wasted energy

Low price for large capacity with a decent selection of drying cycles and features

This dryer is not as quiet as some of the more expensive insulated one, but it’s not the loudest on the list

Weaknesses

Most cycles take up to an hour to dry, which is somewhat longer than other dryers

The bulk cycle does not dry very well and would probably need to be run more than once

GE has a mid-range electric dryer to throw into the mix with the GTD490EDWS. Households looking for a dryer with plenty of drying options as well as a pretty good sized drum will be very happy with this one. A DuraDrum interior ensures this is going to be a lasting dryer as well. It will take what you have to throw at it. You also get a quick fluff mode that uses no heat. It’s a neat feature that has a lot of possibilities for items that can’t stand heat. GE also priced this dryer in the middle of the road area as well. You can find it on sale for $599.00.

This is a much more reasonably priced electric dryer from Samsung. It has a decent selection of cycles, temperatures, and features to make it a very worthy purchase. The 7.2 cubic foot drum capacity is very generous considering the price difference from Samsung’s higher priced model. It is also equipped with things like sensor dry for a perfect dry, a setting to tumble clothes after a cycle has finished to prevent wrinkles, and a certified sanitization cycle that takes care of 99.9% of household germs. All this is available for $699.00.

An inexpensive electric dryer perfect for the budget-conscious family, the Whirlpool WED4800BQ has a large seven cubic foot capacity and durable design that will hold up to many dryings. The features are light on this dryer, but its normal cycle is more than adequate at getting all the dampness out of clothes. While we were disappointed that there wasn’t a light when we opened the door, we were pleased with the tumbling feature at the end of the cycle that cuts down on wrinkles. Also, an end-of-cycle chime lets you know exactly when the load is done. This dryer is available for as low as $479.

This is one of the few electric dryers on the list in incorporate steam into the drying process. Many gas dryers utilize this feature to help reduce wrinkles and keep clothes looking and smelling fresh after the drying process. The electric model from Samsung is no different. You also get a plethora of additional cycles to choose from, 5 temperature settings, and a large drum capacity to take care of just about anything you can imagine. All of this doesn’t come cheap though. You can get the Samsung Series 4 DV405 for $1099.00 or less.
