Counter-depth refrigerators are very important to today’s design community because people are more eager to maximize their living space. And surprisingly even though they contain less overall storage capacity, these refrigerators cost more. At $1899, this is not an inexpensive fridge, but it has some good build quality and features. This fridge has a full-width drawer that can hold a food platter or sheet cake, making it convenient to host parties. And the shelves are easy to adjust and contain spills, which helps keep the fridge looking clean inside and out. We especially liked how the freezer baskets were organized to store plenty of frozen items easily.

This French door counter depth fridge has an internal water dispenser and 20 cubic feet of storage, which puts it in the full size category. The Maytag has adjustable full-width and half-width removable spill-proof glass shelves, which holds tall and short items, and deli drawer and a temp-controlled crisper drawer to hold snack foods in a convenient area. We like the door alarm, although we wish the doors would close completely on their own. Overall, we were pleased with its space and quiet operation. Pricewise, it’s difficult to find good pricing on counter depth, but this fridge is reasonable at around $1889.

Strengths

Price reasonable
Runs efficiently and quietly
Shelves are easy to adjust to fit items of varying heights
Clear gallon bins hold plenty of condiments, milk, soda, etc.
Durable construction and materials

Weaknesses

Though external ice and water dispensers can save lots of money on electricity, they can be unstable. Water lines can some times freeze. Luckily on this fridge the filter location is very easy to get to and the filters themselves are not too expensive.

The GE PZS25KSESS detects when the fridge is opened frequently and lowers its temperature automatically, ensuring that your food stays fresh. Other big pluses are a door alarm that alerts you to a partially closed door, and a water filtration system with an indicator light that removes particles from the water. The downside, as is common with many stainless steel appliances, is that it catches fingerprints easily.

A pretty good price-conscious model with the side by side design, spill proof glass shelving, and space saving highly organized interior design, Frigidaire FFSC2323LS is priced at just $1499 and change. This will likely be one of the lowest prices available for a counter or cabinet depth refrigerator. It does have external ice and water dispensation, which is convenient if you like refilling your water glass regularly. We like that the dual-level lighting keeps everything well illuminated, so you don’t forget about food in the back of the fridge.

Door hinges have covers which hide them
Good price for counter depth
Almost 23 cu. ft., which is pretty large for counter depth
Large bottom crisper drawers easy to open and close
Good value
Bigger on inside than it looks from the outside

This LG fridge has an attractive French door design that’s become popular in recent years, and it has a larger capacity than most counter depth refrigerators at 24 cubic feet. That extra storage comes in handy, especially with the easy-to-adjust shelves that accommodate a variety of tall and wide food items. We also liked the extra tall 12” water dispenser and 8 temperature sensors to keep everything at the right temp. The foam door insulation allows this refrigerator to quality for energy savings and an Energy Star rating.

No weak plastic parts in glide and serve trays
Shelves are easily adjustable to accommodate tall items
Door bins hold a variety of small and large condiments, milk, etc.

The feature set is very complete with external ice and water and that attractive French door design that’s in style. We liked the option of a pantry drawer that lets you choose from three temperatures, so you can store specific items at just the right temperature or let a frozen food defrost safely. The three gallon bins on the door are perfect for storing milk jugs and condiments within easy reach. Just be aware that this fridge can collect fingerprints easily!

The LG LFX21976ST has 20.5 cubic feet, which is perfect for the average family. The stainless steel French door fridge has a water and ice dispenser through the door, controlled by a self-explanatory LED panel. We liked that, because of the counter depth, the refrigerator doesn’t have any hard-to-reach areas, so you’re less likely to lose food in the back of the fridge. There are several drawers in the fridge and freezer, so you’ll lose out on some shelf space, and the door shelving is a little cramped. However, we had no complaints about how quietly it runs or its ability to keep food fresh at precise temperatures.

This is an attractive French door fridge with very unique interior design layout. Some will love it, some will not. The drawers and shelving sometimes fit American packaging pretty well, and it has a cool modern feel to it and saves energy costs because you only have to open one door to access your food. The shelving is adjustable and the total storage capacity just under 22 cubic feet, putting it just above average in overall storage. The bottom freezer section has a 5.52 cubic foot capacity, and the gallon door bins are roomy enough for milk and such. We liked having precise and easy-to-program temperature control as well.

Very quiet operation
Drawers open smoothly because of ball bearings
Convenient alarm if door’s not shut all the way

Some items at very top of fridge can freeze

We like the clean design of this side by side counter depth model from GE. The external filtered water and ice dispenser will be a big plus for many families. This does add the worry of buying filters, but it’s a fair trade for most. The storage spec is very attractive at 23.3 cu. ft. The price is a bit high, but for a counter depth model that is the norm. It can be found for around $2,400 from some online authorized retailers.

Strengths

Clean design
Black is nice for kitchens already equipped with other black appliances
Heavy, nice doors and good interior design
Water despenser is very fast at 100 ounces per minute
The ice maker is pretty quiet
No complications from water/ice dispenser

Weaknesses

A lot of cold air is lost every time one side of the refrigerator is opened

LG calls counter depth, cabinet depth. This fridge is 23.7” in depth. It has an extra tall external ice and water dispenser and contoured doors for space savings. Stated total cu. ft. storage is just over 20′, The included linear compression system has a 10 year warranty.

Also included is LG’s smooth touch temperature controls. All told it has a very updated modern feel and look which should fit in well with renovated kitchens and cabinets.

We’re not crazy about the look and feel of the door handles
