Keeping skin hydrated and balanced is an important step in staying youthful and keeping skin blemish-free. There are two major factors to consider when purchasing a moisturizer; the first being skin type and the second being budget. There are five basic skin types which are normal, dry, combination, oily and sensitive. Once you have determined which category best describes you then figure out what you are willing to spend.

There are a lot of great options to choose from in the drugstore, health food store, department store, with a skin care specialist (esthetician) or a dermatologist. Other details that you might want to consider are whether you want some tinting coverage and/or an SPF in your daily moisturizer. In my experience consistency is key. If you can’t afford a high end moisturizer with a lot of fancy ingredients then opt for a less expensive one. It’s the things we do every day that really make a difference long term.

What kind of woman will you be? The chameleon that changes her scent with the season, mood or time of day….or perhaps you will be the signature scent kind of girl where you have only one perfume that truly defines you. Like clothing a fragrance has to “fit” a person.

It’s not just a matter of what you find appealing but how a particular fragrance mixes with your body chemistry. With so many fragrances to choose from selecting a fragrance can be a process. That being said, it certainly doesn’t have to be an unpleasant one! While inhaling all of the different fragrances in the beauty department cleanse your nasal palate occasionally with the jar of coffee beans they offer, otherwise fragrances may start smelling the same.

Once you choose a fragrance you enjoy be sure to try it on. You want to make sure that it smells good on you when it mixes with your body chemistry. Lastly, spray the fragrance on a piece of paper and put it in your purse. It’s a way to wear it without actually putting it on your skin, in case you don’t like it.

By the end of the day you will know if that fragrance is for you. Whether you have a plethora of fragrances to choose from or just one that makes you feel special, fragrance is a modern day woman’s ultimate accessory.

Women’s fragrances are of course a huge matter of personal preference and with so many to choose from, selecting a mere 10 was challenging. We looked at a lot of different aspects involved in choosing the scents that make up our top 10 list:

1) Consumer popularity speaks volumes. They don’t become best-sellers without a reason!
2) Industry recognition. A select few out of thousands receive awards and we definitely wanted to recognize those.
3) Accessibility is key as a fragrance needs to be tried on before purchasing so you can make sure it mixes well with your body chemistry.
4) Variety of day/night, or season.
5) Price can vary greatly and we wanted fragrances that varied from pricey to inexpensive.
6) Different scent categories are represented so consumers can see the variety there is to choose from.
7) The option to layer. Fragrances should have different products to choose from.
8) Trends. While some consumers are purchasing the “new” fragrances others prefer a classic.

Like the clothes you choose, a fragrance should be comfortable and make you feel beautiful. It needs to be a fit in order to wear it. Choosing a fragrance can be overwhelming. We recommend taking your time and trying them on. Lastly, when a fragrance wins a FiFi Award, it’s an equivalent of an Oscar in the fragrance world.

Those clients loved their scents so much that the orders came pouring in, turning her “gifts” into her highly successful fragrance line. Lime Basil Mandarin was launched in 1991 and is still one of Jo Malone’s best selling fragrances today. The citrus notes are zesty and uplifting while the basil lends an herbaceous depth. Viktor & Rolf the Amsterdam-based fashion house launched their first fragrance, Flowerbomb, in 2005.The bottle is a fashion statement in itself. The pink glass bottle is cut in the shape of a glass diamond bomb and has a wax seal with Viktor & Rolf’s logo on it. Ultra chic! The bottle is a suggestion of what is contained inside. Bomb indeed! A feminine floral explosion followed by an enticing sweetness. Flowerbomb’s fans often refer to it as addictive. This scent isn’t really season specific which makes it an easy wear. Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor, the two founders of the L.A. based Juicy brand launched Juicy Couture their first fragrance, in 2006. Skaist- Levy described the scent as “something Barbie might wear.” In 2007, it was the winner of the FiFi fragrance of the year award in the luxe category. Although it’s long lasting, it”s not overpowering. It is light and fresh. With all of it’s fruit and edible notes the word it’s described with frequently is….yummy. This well balanced fragrance is fruity, clean and airy. When someone walks by with this fragrance on, I find myself inhaling a little deeper. It’s like a ocean breeze to the senses. New York-born fashion designer, Marc Jacobs released this fragrance in 2007. It is a fragrance winner of both the Allure Magazine’s Readers Choice Awards and the CEW Insider’s Choice Beauty Awards. If it were possible, I would describe this fragrance as “sunny”. Daisy is light and fresh with the air of innocence. Released in 1997, Clinique Happy is Clinique’s best selling female fragrance. Jim Nevins, Clinique’s creative director was watching a biography of Judy Garland on the A&E channel one night and on came the song, “Come On Get Happy”. Nevins claims he thought to himself, “Who doesn’t want to be happy?” And thus, Clinique’s Happy was born. It’s an light-hearted, fresh scent that’s an easy, anytime wear. First launched in 1921, this fragrance is rich with history. Chanel no 5 is the best selling perfume in the world. According to legend, the perfumer Ernst Beaux presented Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel with a selection of numbered fragrances to choose from. She chose number 5, hence the name. Many celebrities have worn this fragrance over the years, including Marilyn Monroe. When asked in an interview what she wore to bed, Marilyn responded “five drops of Chanel no 5.” That’s the best unsolicited endorsement I’ve ever heard of! What a story! When removing the applicator from the tube do not “pump” it in and out to add more product to the brush. This pushes air into the tube and dries it out quicker. Open the tube without removing the applicator all the way and roll the brush in a circular motion inside the tube so it has enough mascara on the brush.

If there is too much product simply brush it back in the tube. It will get pushed back in when you close it up. Always start the mascara application at the base of the lashes and wiggle the brush back and forth as you move upward. This separates the lashes and helps to apply the product evenly.

Turn the brush so that you have used both sides before returning it to the tube. For the bottom lashes use the tip of the brush to coat them evenly. If you prefer a more dramatic look then go back over the lashes and apply a second coat.

Lastly, comb the lashes from base to tip removing any clumps or excess product with a lash comb. Any smudges around the eye can be removed with a Q-tip and a little makeup remover.
